Monitoring, Assessment and Evaluation

Assessment is one of the basic things that the teacher should apply it in the classroom. Because it demonstrates students’ understanding, determine their levels and identify their needs. As well, it’s motivating their performance and assist the teachers to achieve their goals (Edutopia, 2008).

In this section I will present how I used the assessment and evaluation in the classroom and the positive results that I will undoubtedly use in my teaching career.

During my teaching practice, I used the two types of the assessment by different ways,

Formative assessment:

I used the formative assessment every day in each lesson that I taught. First, in the circle time through active engagement and I ask them different questions and observe them. Second, in center time and I did this by choosing one activity and repeat it for one week and choose different students every day in focus group I used a check list.

Summative assessment:

I used the summative assessment with my MST in March as a exam " skills test". It include letters, sounds, count numbers, identify the numbers, write the name and read the sight words. We take each student a lone and did the exam with hem/her.

The assessment helped me  to identify the strengths and weaknesses for the students and the areas that need to improve. As well,  know it the students achieve the outcome or not . This supported by ZPD theory for  Vygotsky, which emphasize that the teacher should know the students’ levels to help them to improve and move from their levels to higher level and this happen by formative assessment (McLeod, Lev Vygotsky, 2014).
